NEET 2025 Exam Pattern and Syllabus Overview

For students hoping to gain admission to medical and dentistry programs in India, the NEET 2025 exam is crucial. It serves as the critical entry point for several undergraduate medical courses and, in some ways, directs the career path of aspiring medical professionals.

To excel in the NEET 2025 Exam, knowing the exam pattern and syllabus is necessary. To strategize your preparation effectively, you’ll need to get familiar with the structure of questions and how they are distributed across subjects. In this blog, you will get detailed information about the NEET 2025 exam pattern and syllabus for your preparation.

Expected Changes in the NEET 2025 Exam Pattern

The Supreme Court has asked the National Testing Agency (NTA) to evaluate possible changes to the NEET UG 2025 exam pattern. Students are concerned about discussions beginning in mid-2024 under the guidance of a High-Powered Expert Committee on this review. Below are a few of the expected changes which can be ruled out in the NEET 2025 Exam pattern:

Exam Mode

A hybrid model could be implemented for regions with limited resources, combining digital question papers with handwritten answers to make the exam accessible to all candidates.

Multi-Stage Examination Format

The NEET 2025 exam might have a two-stage format, like the JEE, to improve candidate management and give a fair and comprehensive evaluation. This shift will greatly improve the testing system and the assessment of a candidate's knowledge and skills.

Number of Attempts

Another possible change is capping the number of attempts for the NEET UG exam.

Age Limit

NEET 2025 might adopt age barriers, which could ensure that candidates are sufficiently fit to enter medical education at an appropriate age. Such constraints would, after all, provide an equitable representation of students competing nationally for medical seats and make the process fairer.

When finalising discussions, students are requested to be aware of all such announcements as and when they are made public through the official channels.

NEET 2025 Exam Overview

The exam shall have three major subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, with 50 questions from each subject correlated into two sub-sections. For example, Section A will have 35 questions, and Section B will have 15 questions. NEET 2025 Exam Pattern outlines how students can plan and prepare for this competitive entrance exam. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has also put up the official syllabus of NEET UG 2025 on its site for all students to peruse.

NEET 2025 Exam: Marking Scheme

The NEET 2025 exam has 720 marks and 180 MCQs (Multiple-Choice Questions), each worth four marks.

Section A: The section consists of a series of 35 questions based on physics, chemistry, zoology, and botany. No options are given; hence, candidates must answer all questions. This section is worth 140 marks, with each question worth four marks. Sections A and B are subject to the negative marking scheme, which means that each incorrect answer will yield a deduction of one mark.

Section B: Section B contains 15 questions out of which 10 can be answered. Only the first 10 answers will be considered if more than 10 questions are attempted. Section B contains 10 questions that each carry four marks, and the highest possible marks you can get in this section is 40 marks (10 x 4 marks).

So, the total score per subject (Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology) is 180 marks, 140 marks from Section A and 40 marks from Section B. The NEET 2025 exam total marks will be 720 marks.
