This committee is formed to evaluate the NTA’s exam processes, various operations after the several malpractices due to the negligence of NTA has impacted the future of lakhs of students.
Potential changes that can happen in the NEET 2025 exam pattern
- Mode of exam: There are certain speculations that NEET 2025 might be conducted online just like the CUET and JEE examinations instead of the original pen and OMR sheet format to reduce malpractices and enhance fairness in the examination.
- No of optional questions: The NTA has already reduced the number of questions in JEE exam formats. So, it is expected that they might do the same in removing the optional questions from the section B of the exam.

Note: These changes are all speculated and under review by a high-powered expert committee. The final notice will be released after their recommendations.
The Supreme Court has already granted the seven members of the newly formed expert committee a two-week extension for the report submission on the exam reforms after reviewing carefully the NTA’S format in handling NEET 2025. The report is expected to be submitted by the first week of November.
Some major proposals from the experts of the committee:

The circumstances or centres where online exams are not feasible, a hybrid approach can be accepted where the question papers will be sent online to the centres and then the students can appear for the exam in pen and paper format.
- Adapting a two-phase exam: To tackle the huge number of applicants, the experts suggest that a two-stage exam like the JEE, can be adapted to manage the large number of NEET-UG candidates and assess their performance and scores more carefully.
- Encouraging in hiring more NTA staff: The committee proposed that NTA should hire more staff members that will lead to better organization of exams and managing them transparently.
- Avoid paper leaks: The members of the committee proposed that the question papers can be sent digitally and releasing them just for example 10-20 minutes before the examination. This will ensure security and prevent paper leaks.
- Increasing security: The committee emphasizes on improving the data security of the NTA so that they can have more centres under their control rather than depending on outside centres.
- Limiting the unlimited attempts: The members proposed setting a bar on the number of attempts for the NEET UG exam. This will encourage the students to perform their best in the first attempt itself.

NEET UG is a three hours and twenty minutes offline OMR-based exam conducted by NTA.
